WHISTLER!

Thursday morning was the day that I went to Whistler. It was kind of sad because I still wanted to live with Chloe and Kathryn at the Samesun.

I got up at 6 and took a cab to the Greyhound bus station. They weighed my bags and one of them was, of course, too heavy so they made me repack so I didn't have to pay more than I already did.

The trip to Whistler was so incredibly beautiful and my pictures just doesn't do it justice, but here are some anyways:

I spent all thursday unpacking and buying groceries, friday went with doing nothing and then I met up with a girl named Hannah for some drinks at Tapleys in the village. Yesterday I went to take a look at the village but it was raining so I just went to buy some more groceries then back home to watch some tv shows all day.

Today is sunday and I think I'm going to go see the village some more, maybe buy an antenna cable, since my tv doesn't have one and then just relax at home.
I can't wait untill I get some roommates and untill Chloe and Kathryn comes to Whistler. I miss them a lot!

More of Vancouver

Sunday we went back to Stanley Park but this time to go to the aquarium. It was awesome and we stayed there for hours. I saw my first beluga whale! I also had my first poutine which was surprisingly good. Poutine is french fries with gravy and cheese, and it's delicous.

When we got back home the girls decided that they wanted to get me drunk. So we went to the beaver at 4pm and began our first beer. We met some boys who we ended up playing drinking games with all night.
The morning after was not so fun ;) haha

Yesterday we stayed at our room because we were too hungover to do anything. We went to the supermarket to get hangover food then just stayed in bed all day, haha. I went to bed at 9, then woke up at 4 and regretted that decision...

Today we went to get our SIN numbers, bank account and cell plans sorted out. It took almost all day and when we were finished we went to a last season sale on snowboard gear. I found a jacket I've been wanting for a long time, some pants and a pair of mittens. :D

We just ate dinner and are now hanging out in our room. I'm surprised I haven't crashed yet since I woke up at 4am, but it'll probably happen in a few moments, haha :)

I have one day left in Vancouver before heading to Whistler, and I can't wait to get there! It's already really cold and snowing there :D

Vancouver!

Hey guys!

I've had a nights sleep now, so I'm ready to tell you a little about my journey!
My first flight was great! I had a window seat and the rows at the window is only to chairs, and the chair beside me didn't fill up so I could almost lay down! The movies were good, food was okay and in general everything was fine.

When I got to Toronto I decided to take it easy. That was a stupid mistake! I thought I had to go pick up my bags then go through immigration but it was the other way around!
So I got to immigration and there were like five people ahead of me but it took like 45 minutes to get through and when I finally got to the baggage claim the screen didn't even show where the baggage from my flight had come out anymore.

So I had to ask where my baggage would have come out. Turns out it was the farthest away so I had to run down there and drag my bags all the way back to the entrance, then check them in and run to my gate where the people then informs us that our cabin crew had yet to arrive with only 5 minutes to boarding ...

My flight to Vancouver was not so good though. I was exchausted and couldn't wait to get to Vancouver so I tried sleeping but it wasn't easy :(
I finally got to Vancouver and luckily my bags came out quickly so I just went and got a cab to the hostel.

The people at the hostel were really nice and helped me out with my bags and gave me a Working Holiday Club package containing a map of the city, a welcome letter, a free beer card, a TWHC bracelet and some other things. When I finally got to my room I just crashed.

This morning I woke up to all the beds in the room filled up and when I introduced myself two of the girls went like "Vibe? From the Working Holiday Club?". It turns out that they're going to Whistler too! So we had breakfast together and decided to go out together. We went shopping at the drugstore, ate lunch at Subway because I never get to go to Subway in Denmark, and then we went to Stanley Park!

Stanley Park was so incredibly beautiful so we spent almost all day there. We saw the totem poles, chased geese, walked around the shore side, met a beautiful dog with different eye colors, decided that we should go to Vancouver Aquarium tomorrow and eventually decided it was time to go home before heading back to a halloween themed event in the Park.

Turns out we're not as good at getting around as we thought. We ended up getting so lost and almost walked right back into the park! So we decided to just eat dinner and then go back to the park where we had tickets for a ghost train. We found this amazing Japanese restaurant which was so good and so cheap and we ate so much, haha :)

Then we went back to the park where we got on the ghost train which was a kids train driving around a halloween edition of old fairy tales. It was so pretty and also a little morbid sometimes ... The girls wanted to get a pumpkin so we stayed and carved a pumpkin, which eventually was named Pete the Party Pumpkin.
Then the cold weather got the best of us and we decided to head home. This time asking the busdriver where we should get off the bus, haha.

I actually went straight to bed when we got home which was at 8pm in Canada, but was later awokened by drunk irish guys shouting in the hall and my roomies trying to make them shut up, haha!
So I figured I might as well write my entry now that it's 1 in the morning and not as many people are using the internet.

So yeah that was my first day here! I'm gonna upload some pictures when the internet will allow me. Until then you're gonna have to settle with just text :)
Tomorrow we're going to go to the Vancouver Aquarium which I'm so excited about!
I hope all my danish friends are having a good time back home, because I'm having the time of my life already and I'm sensing this is going to be some crazy 7 months ahead of me!

This is it part 2!

Okay so now I'm in Toronto. Sweating, red in my face and gasping for air. Thank you, immigration for taking that long! haha

My flight was great though. 8½ hours felt like no time at all, I had some sleep, watched three episodes of Big Bang Theory, the movie Some like it hot and Madagascar 3 (which were both good movies). Also ate which is always great, haha :)

Now I'm sitting at the boarding area to my connection and beginning to feel a little dizzy. I'm guessing it's mainly because of dehydration but also lack of sleep, so the next hours untill I arrive will be interesting! :)

I was so glad to log onto facebook because so many people had wished me good luck and have a safe trip and that kind of things.. It makes me so happy that people are thinking of me :) (How can they not, I keep spamming them on facebook, haha)

Well, I think we're about to board. When I get to Vancouver I've been up for just about 24 hours, so no blogupdate untill I've slept for a very long time, haha :) .... Oh wait, they're just telling us that our crew members has yet to arrive (5 minutes to boarding) so I have some time left to write ;)

I can't wait to tell you all about how my trip is going! Stay tuned for part 3!

This is it!

My dream is now acutally coming true!

It is Friday the 19th of October and it's 10.20 am danish time. I'm sitting in the airport watching the planes take off. Half an hour ago I said goodbye to my mom, dad, little sister, grandma and grandpa.

It's hard to tell how I'm feeling right now actually.. I'm sad I had to say goodbye to my family, but I can't stop smiling knowing that I'm on my way to what I've wanted to do for so long.

Here are some pictures of my travel so far:

This is my bag a week ago

This is my bag yesterday afternoon

This is how I thought I'd travel

Untill I couldn't zip my bag and it weighed twice as much as I'm allowed to bring.
I had to pay for an extra bag, haha.

This is how it looked this morning. My two bags and my rucksack for carry on.

And this is the sunrise when we drove to the airport.

So yeah, right now I'm sitting in the airport watching the plans take off. There's an hour until my plane begins to board so I'm just sitting here watching and writing. I'll be flying to Toronto first where appearently I have to pick up my bags, drag them through custom and immigration then check in one more time. Kind of silly.

Then I'll be flying to Vancouver where I'll be arriving around 8 pm BC-time. When I get to the airport all I have to do is take a cab, get to the Samesun Hostel and sleep for a VERY long time :)

I think this is it for the first entry of my journey - I think I'll be writing again when I'm in Toronto if I have time. Now I'll go back to watching the planes. Just like me and my dad used to every time we flew together :)

and now for a message to my family (in danish :D):
Jeg lover at jeg nok skal passe godt på mig selv, skrive mange sms'er om hvordan det går og sende jer billeder og videoer hele tiden. Jeg elsker jer meget højt og kommer til at savne jer meget :) Kram og kys!

Take off in three days!

Hey guys! :)

Today was my last day at work. As I mentioned earlier, I've been working in a kindergarten, and truth is it was terrible saying goodbye to all those cute faces! It still can't overshine how excited I am that I'm leaving in three days though I did need just a little moment of tears, haha :)

Today is also the day that my snowboards were picked up for shipment! I wasn't home when they picked it up, but my mom says there were some problems, but he brought them with him anyways, so hopefully everything will be alright!

Whistler Blackcomb also just posted this picture on their facebook site:

SNOW HAS FALLEN!!! Which means that my workplace is beginning to look like something, and that I am SO stoked that I will be there next week!!!

Next week at this time I will probably be sitting in the bar in the Samesun hostel listening to Julia and Andrew from the Working Holiday Club helping all us newcomers through applying for SIN-number, bank accounts and phone plans. They will be at the Samesun from next monday and two weeks ahead helping all us newbies in big scary Vancouver, haha :)

Oh, and my parents are really beginning to panic about me leaving, and this is the result:
They took me and my sister out for goodbye-brunch this sunday, which was so nice and really delicous too :)
And well, it doesn't stop there!
Right now my parents are cooking christmas dinner because they won't be able to come visit me for christmas, and I can't go home to visit either. I think it's really cute that they're doing it, and christmas food is so goooood, so I'm excited about dinner tonight ;)

One of my best friends, Linea, is coming to visit me after dinner and I'm looking forward to seeing her as well :D But I think I'll go help with the christmas cooking now :)

Thanks for reading!

Preparations and going away party

Hi readers!

So this week has just flown away, and it feels like yesterday I was preparing for my last full week at work. Now it's saturday morning, I haven't really slept well and I gave up after 5 hours of trying.
I'm not sure if it's because it kind of hit me last night. I'm really going!

I had a going-away party last night for my gymnasium class and it was great seeing people again. We laughed and caught up with each other and they all hugged me and told me to have a great time when they left, so I think I'm really beginning to understand that I will be in Canada by this time next week!!

I had made jell-o shots for the guests, which turned out okay! I usually don't really succeed when trying to make them, haha :D They were all gone within an hour so I guess people liked them. I even dared eating two myself!

This is my friend eating one of the jell-o shots. Took the picture for proof that they were edible, haha :)

Oh, and two of my friends were so sweet, they gave me a present!!
Stine and Line (also weird danish names ;) ) wanted to give me something that I could bring with me to Canada, so this is what they gave me:
(From the left)
A bag of danish liqourice called Salty Fish. They are so gooood, but appearently only danes like it.
A packet of dip-mix for chips (because we're not sure if Canada will be providing this, so they had to make sure I would have dip if I needed it, haha :D)
The two last bags are spices for some danish christmas cookies. Since Canada doesn't have this and christmas just isn't christmas without these cookies, Stine and Line has made sure I will be able to bake them myself. The cookies are called "Brown cookies" and "Pepper nuts", haha.

Stine and Line, if you're reading this I want you to know that the present made me very happy. It was very sweet of you, so thank you so much! I will be thinking of you guys with every bite of my present, haha :D Tak! (Thanks in danish)

This week I've also tried to get my things ready. I printed out all of the documents I will be needing and sorted them in a folder. I also finally bought the shipment for my snowboards. They will be picked up on tuesday and then shipped to staff housing in Whistler, who promised that they would store them for me until I arrive - so nice of them.

I think that now I just need to begin my packing and then my adventure finally begins! Okay, it actually already has begun with all the planning and all the brochures and videos The Working Holiday Club has been sending me the last half year, haha :D

I guess that that was it for now! I think I'm going to start packing my stuff today, yay!
Have a great day everyone :)

Oooh, and Whistler Blackcomb just posted a picture of the peak. SNOW HAS FALLEN!!!

Something about me

Okay, so I was thinking maybe you should get to know me a little!

As I already mentioned my name is Vibe, and it's weird. So weird that once, when someone dared me to change my facebook name into something more inappropriate, Facebook wouldn't let me change it back to Vibe. I guess my name just sends out bad vibes ... No, sorry for the lame pun, haha!

I'm 19 years old (turning 20 in Canada!!) and I live in a medium sized (I guess that would be small for people not living in Denmark) city half an hour north of the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen. If you dare pronounce it, here's the name: Hillerød.
Since I was two years old Hillerød has been my home.

I've tried almost every sport there is, but eventually settled on classical ballet. I loved it and actually wanted to become a ballet dancer. I stopped dancing three years ago even though I sometimes miss it terribly.
I think I love ballet and snowboarding equally, though ballet never hurt me as much as snowboarding did, haha:)

Speaking of snowboarding, I want to show you my two snowboards which I will be bringing with me to Canada!

These are my snowboards. On the left is my newest snowboard. It's a Bataleon Evil Twin with Union Flite bindings. My parents gave it to me last Christmas (pretty awesome parents, huh? (or should I say Eh??)). On the right is a snowboard that a family friend gave to me right afte my first snowboard vacation because his son had outgrown it.

I currrently have 10 days left in Denmark before leaving for Canada. I will be flying with AirCanada through Toronto and then arriving in Vancouver on October 19! Then Samesun Hostel will be my temporary home while I arrange my SIN-number, bank account and phone plan. Finally on the 25th I will be able to call Whistler my new home!! :)

Until two days before leaving I'm working a job in a kindergarten, which I must admit I kind of love. I used to say I didn't like kids, but that was until I started this job. Now I can't stop talking about them, haha:) Which is good because I really need to be there a lot in order to earn some money for my adventure! And as you can see, today I taught the babies to give me high fives, so it's pretty awesome.

I think you know pretty much all you need to know about me now. I could go on and on about how excited I am, but I think I'm gonna save that entry for the day before leaving, haha :) Thanks for reading, and don't forget to subscribe :)

The adventure begins

Hello world,

and welcome to the adventure that is about begin in my life!

My name is Vibe (yup, weird danish name, try [Vi-be], haha) and I live in Denmark. Well, for the next two weeks at least. Here is my story:

Ever since I took my first turn on the snowboard, I knew I had to do that a lot more.
When I got back from that holiday I sat right down with the computer and found the resort of my dreams. Whistler Blackcomb.
I don't know why, I just know that that was it - and it still is.
With the help of The Working Holiday Club my dream is finally coming true.

I was 13 years old then. Now I'm 19 and two weeks away from the biggest step I have ever taken.
In 13 days I will be standing in the airport. Bags packed, snowboards shipped, saying my goodbyes to friends and family, and hello to the next seven months, which I believe will be the best months of my life.

When I say the best months of my life, I mean it. And you will get to see why. Which is why I made a list. I'm calling it my teenage bucket list:

  • Move out
  • Move to Canada
  • Snowboard an entire season
  • Snowboard to work
  • Work an awesome job
  • Use my lunch break for snowboarding
  • Get friends for life
  • Get friends from all over the world
  • Go to my first ever after ski party
  • Eat my weight in Tim Horton doughnuts
  • Take my first lap in the fun park
  • Do my first 360 while maintaining the natural color of my butt
  • Make people try danish food and laugh at them ;)
  • Experience holidays in Canada
  • Coming home wanting to go back
And those are only like half of the things that excites me about going! I am stoked beyond limits. It has gotten to the point where there are no more snowboard videos I haven't seen on youtube.
It is the only thing I talk about and at the moment there is nothing that I'm doing which is not directly related to going to Canada.

This is my favourite at the moment. Torstein Horgmo killing it and being super funny at the same time. :D
Might also be due to the fact that I have a teeny tiny crush on him, haha!

This is my dream. And I honestly don't think that I could have done it without the Working Holiday Club.
I've never experinced people go beyond really good customer service to make sure that my dream was is safe hands. But now I have!
I would recommend going with the Working Holiday Club to anyone asking for my advice. Simply because I could not have felt in more safe hands than with the Working Holiday Club.

From emails, to visa applications, to doubts to job interviews - the Working Holiday Club was there, constantly making sure I was prepared.
Basically all I had to do was check my email, show up to my interview and try to not get cramps in my cheeks from smiling so much.

So yeah, that was my first entry in this blog. I am so excited and I hope I will one day be reading this and thinking about what an awesome season that came my way.

Thank you for reading!
I'm going to go rewatch some snowboard videos now ;)
